The forehead chakra is the sixth chakra in the body’s energy system. The purpose of the forehead chakra is to have awareness of the higher self. This is the chakra of intuition, imagination, wisdom and psychic abilities. It is sometimes referred to as the third eye chakra.
The forehead chakra strengthens intuition and sparks imagination. It uses your imagination and intuition to help you align with your true path. It enables you to think outside of the box and find solutions to blockages in your life.
The forehead chakra is located, you guessed it, on the forehead! It lays in the center between your eyebrows.
The age of development for this chakra is 36 – 42. It corresponds to the sacral chakra meaning when the forehead chakra is weak the sacral chakra will overcompensate and vice versa.
The sensory function of the forehead chakra is sixth sense. I like to joke about this sensory function and say that “My spidey-sense is tingling!”
A Balanced Forehead Chakra
A well-balanced forehead chakra helps you dream of possibilities of what could be, while you are still conscious of reality. An imbalanced forehead chakra creates a fantasy, a non-existent reality, which is an escape from reality.
When the forehead chakra is balanced one has clear eyesight, inspiration, adaptability, faith, intuition, clear headedness, and wisdom.
Body Parts Effected by the Forehead Chakra
The associated body parts for this chakra are the lower brain, face, ears, nose, sinuses, central nervous system and pituitary gland. When this chakra is out of balance these areas will be the first to show the symptoms.
Symptoms of an Out of Balance Forehead Chakra
- Far sighted
- Near sighted

How to Balance the Crown Chakra
There are several ways one can bring balance back to the forehead chakra. I will go through each of the components and techniques on how to bring alignment back to the forehead chakra below.
The Color Violet
Surround yourself with violet! Wear violet, eat things that are violet colored, smell things that are violet colored…violet, violet, violet. Think Violet Beauregarde from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Violet ignites and activates the forehead chakra to amplify the life force energy flowing through your body’s energy system.
I have to admit violet is not my favorite color. It almost conjures up disdain within me. So if you are like me and not a fan of the color violet move one to a different technique.
I like to close my eyes and picture an egg shape surrounding my body. I visualize violet filling that egg shape from the top of my head down.
Using your imagination isn’t something adults participate in very much. However, if you want to get your forehead chakra balanced it is a great way to start.
Daydream take some time to think on your hopes and dreams no matter how farfetched they may seem.
Imagination is the link to unlocking your intuition. It is like getting a two for one when you start to use your imagination. Play, create, run, jump, sing and do whatever your heart can think of.
Get Your Grub On
Lemongrass, poppy seed, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries all spark the forehead chakra.
As the Italians would say, Mangia! Mangia! I like to eat a lemon blueberry cake to treat myself when I want to balance my forehead chakra.
This is the recipe I use:
The keynote for the forehead chakra is A. The vowel is E, as in greet. Chanting the sound Om will also do the trick. When you are alone I highly recommend doing a few Oms! I need you to feel how they resonate.
If you are a little timid about using your voice, that’s okay. You can use your ears! Hemi-sync and Binaural Beats offer a unique way to synchronize your left and right brain.
I use blue tourmaline for my crystal meditation. Some other crystal choices are blue sapphire, opal and lapis lazuli.
Any chance I get I like to meditate in the sunshine on the grass. Preferably looking up at the tree tops as they sway in the breeze. Looking at the clouds are a close second to my beloved trees.
I place my blue tourmaline on my forehead between my brows. I take a moment to sense the shape of the crystal on my forehead and become aware of the heaviness of the crystal. Then I try to picture the color of the crystal.
I relax by awareness of my breath, soaking in the crystal’s healing energy.
I like to combine more than one technique when I’m trying to balance a chakra. The easiest way to do this is adding the component of smell.
To balance the forehead chakra lemon grass, violet, jasmine and lavender are in my tool kit. The fragrance emanating from these plants refreshes the forehead chakra. Of course, the easiest way to get these aromas is with candles, incense or my favorite essential oils.
Bach flower remedies for the forehead chakra are crab apple, vine and walnut. Crab apple is good for those obsessive thoughts, patterns and behaviors. Breaking free from the things that distract us enables us to free our mind for intuition.
Vine is for the overbearing and for the mind that tends to dominate with the mind instead of the heart. It helps us to become more flexible and less rigid which allows the mind room to expand and imagine.
Walnut is to strengthen the belief in oneself and ones decisions. No more second guessing with this Bach flower. It is also useful during life transitions because it buffers the effect of change. Walnut helps us to become wise and trust ourselves.
As always use your best judgment when choosing which technique to use when balancing the forehead chakra. Check back soon to find out about the fifth chakra.
I’d love to hear your questions. If you have tried one of these techniques let me know how it worked for you.
