Energy Healing is a broad term that envelops any energy-based healing modality. Commonly known energy healing modalities are: Reiki, Quantum Touch, Healing Touch, Crystal Healing, Emotional Freedom Tapping and Pranic Healing.
Energy healing modalities use universal life force energy to align and active the body’s energy system. When universal life force energy flows freely to the body’s energy system a positive state of wellness occurs. Universal life force energy is also known as chi.
Energy Healing works by supporting the body’s innate ability to self heal. It does this through clearing, repairing and re-balancing the body’s energy system.
The body’s energy system consists of the body’s energy field, energy centers and energy pathways. Energy Healing re-vitalizes these systems. It bolsters the ability for chi to flow freely. When chi flows freely a state of equilibrium is achieved in the w-holistic self: body, mind and spirit.
Scientifically speaking, our bodies produce electric energy through chemical processes. Our heart produces electrical activity. This activity can be seen with an EKG test.
The energy field surrounding the body is a combination of these electric and magnetic fields. Also, the electromagnetic field can be expressed mathematically.
Universal energy is called by many different names. References to universal energy can be found in several different cultures. In China it is called chi. In Japan it is referred to as ki or qi. Ebreo labels is a nephesch. Catalan it is said as esma. India refers to it as prana.
Whatever you call universal energy it is the breath or life, vitality of spirit or life force behind every living thing.
Universal energy surrounds, connects and sustains the physical body. It affects our emotions, spirituality and mind. It touches our relationships and even our finances.
In Feng Shui it is expressed in different colors and shapes. Feng Shui believes that you need to nourish and direct energy. By doing so you create a balance of positive and negative energy.
Spiritually speaking, we call the electromagnetic field our energetic body. The energetic body has many components to it.
There are seven layers to the energetic body. I focus on the three basic layers. I refer to these layers as bodies. These layers are contained in the energy field, also known as, the aura.
The aura has an etheric body, emotional body and mental body. The physical body is a manifestation of all of those elements.
Each layer produces a different type of energy. The etheric body is the layer closet to the body. It is usually perceived as a blue color.
The second layer is the emotional body. The emotional body changes with the emotions a person experiences. This layer is usually seen as a cloudy, blurry and multi-colored haze above the etheric body.
The third layer is the mental body. This layer is comprised of the mental thoughts and processes. It is brightest around the head and extends down to the rest of the body.
All of the layers are fluid and will change according to the what a person is experiencing, feeling and thinking.
Chakras, also known as, energy centers are the wheelhouse of our energy field. I like to think of them as the gears and cogs of a clock. When there is a problem with the gears and cogs of a clock, the clock will not work properly.
Therfore, the same goes for the chakras. When the chakras are out of sync the rest of the body’s energy system will be as well. There are seven chakras that relate to different aspects of our being.
The crown chakra is our connection to the universe and spirituality. It is located at the top of the head. It correlates to the upper brain, eyes, pineal gland and higher self.
The forehead chakra is commonly referred to as the third eye. It is located between the eyebrows. This chakra represents intuition. The forehead chakra correlates to the lower brain, face, ears, nose sinuses and central nervous system.
The heart chakra is the center of our joy. It is located in the middle of the chest. The heart chakra correlates to the rib cage, heart, lungs, circulation, skin, hands, arms and upper back.
The solar pelus chakra is the epicenter of our will and overall health. It is located in the upper abdomen. The body parts this chakra correlates to are the upper abdomen, liver, gallbladder, middle spine, spleen, kidney, adrenals, small intestines and stomach.
The sacral chakra contains our passions. It is located below the belly button. This chakra correlates to the hips, lower back, sexual organs and bladder.
The root chakra is all about survival. It is located at the base of the spine. The associated body parts are the coccyx, anus, large intestine, adrenal glands, back, legs, feet and bones.
Meridians are the pathways from the aura to the charkas. I like to think of them as veins that pump life force energy to the energy field and energy centers.
They are a vast network of energy channels throughout the body’s energy system. Acupuncture refers to them as acupoints and energy vessels.
Reflexology maps out the meridians as points that correspond to specific areas of the body’s organs and systems.
Energy Healing aligns and balances all the elements of the energy body. An Energy Healing Practitioner can sense and feel energy disruptions. They channel healing energy and guide it using specific techniques. Hence, promoting the balance of energy supports the body’s ability to self heal.
Energy Healing Modalities
Reiki was developed in 1922 by Dr. Mikao Usui. Reiki translated means wisdom and life force. It is a Japanese alternative medicine. This technique uses hands-on healing. Universal energy is channeled through the practitioner to the client through the palms. Reiki is not massage. Instead, it is a spiritually based practice. It encourages emotional and physical healing.
Quantum Touch was created by Richard Gordon. It combines a number of healing techniques including Qi Gong. It utilizes body awareness, breathing techniques and meditations. This elevates the practitioner’s energy. Therefore, the client’s energy will heal by matching the energy vibration of the practitioner. This modality is very good at safeguarding the practitioner from taking on the energy of the client. Empathic healers this energy healing modality is a great starting point.
Healing Touch was founded in 1989 by Janet Mentgen, RN, BSN. It is an energy therapy that utilizes the practitioner’s hands to influence the energy system. It is a non-invasive heart-centered modality. Healing Touch is a very structured and thorough modality.
Crystal healing is a pseudoscientific alternative medicine technique. It influences the energy system through the strategic placement of crystals and stones. Crystals are placed on the chakras and around the body. Hence, this placement creates energy grids. The energy grid amplifies the energy system promoting the healing process.
Emotional Freedom Tapping
Emotional Freedom Tapping is an energy healing modality that works with the body’s meridian points. This technique processes traumatic memories and emotions while tapping on the corresponding meridian points. It helps to resolve negative emotion. EFT, also, dissolves fear while restoring emotional balance.
Pranic Healing was established by GrandMaster Choa Kok Sui. It is an energy medicine that believes physical ailments first appear as energetic disruptions in the energy system. Restoring prana to the energy field harmonizies and transforms the energy processes. Also, Pranic Healing is a no-touch healing modality.

What to Expect
Don’t forget, energy healing is performed while you are fully clothed it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing.
Energy Healing can be done with or without physical touch. This usually depends on the modality and the client’s preference.
Sessions can range from 15 minutes to 1 hour. The most common sensations experienced during a healing session are relaxation, peace, tingling, warmth or coolness.
Before and After
Most Energy Healers will talk with you before and after the session but not during the session. This is to provide the client with a relaxing and focused experience.
Energy Healers will normally walk you through a grounding meditation. This will allow you to center and attune to the energy healing.
Also, it is important to hydrate yourself before and after an energy healing session. This allows your body to optimize the balance of energy. It always suggest to eat healthy before and after sessions.
There is usually a set fee for an energy healing session based on the minutes of service. Tipping is at the client’s discretion.
I always like to ask my clients to journal a day before their session and the following 3 days after their session. This helps the client to keep track of their progress via the mind, body and spirit connection.
On occasion a client may experience a healing crisis. I equate this to using a mud mask. After using a
mud mask you may experience a break out. The detoxifying process can cause the break out. From the the dirt and oil being pulled to the surface.
A healing crisis is a temporary reaction that may worsen symptoms before deeper healing begins. Be patient with yourself during this time. Come back for more energy healing.
If a healing crisis occurs drink plenty of water. Also, I always suggest processing your emotions. Release any negative emotions by crying, screaming or physical activity. Get it out of your system!
